can someone please tell me what this is for? I know the top one is my alternator, and my power steering pulley is on the other side.

Air/smog pump for emissions. Dilutes exhaust gasses.

Do they really need those in north america? Probably just places like china or india where they have like 10 billion cars.

you know when china held the Olympics they had to shut down all the factorys for the air to clean up. this is why scrap prices went through the roof at the time, cause they have no EPA or very little laws. i hate to say it but if we all (americans) drove these trucks now days instead of the low emissions trucks/cars we would be just as bad off.

Its a trade-off i guess, clean air but stupid ugly lame girly cars, or classic really cool muscle cars and squarebodies but filthy air quality. Hmmmm...lets see, a 65-71 Chevelle SS, or a 2014 equinox. Any takers? I'll take the chevelle and a respirator!!
