1978 Chevy K10 Resurrection
« on: March 28, 2016, 06:57:29 pm »
Hey guys, I thought now would be a good time to start posting my build. Currently i am in the middle of rebuilding a 79 350 i bought off of a friend for 150 bucks and i need some suggestions for a cam shaft [Preferably one on summit racing's website] and a complete rebuild kit. For now lets back up a tick and let me fill you guys in on how this truck got to where it is now. My dad bought the original 1978 k10 off of his brother 'my uncle' sometime in between 2002 and 05' [I've asked and none of my family remembers when for sure] and he used it as a farm truck for several years 'pulling discs with it' and he eventually decided to swap out the cab, clip and bed for one off of a 86 c30. He got the 86' c30 from texas for about 3000 bucks, took the cab and clip off, scraped the frame and bed 'They were in bad shape' and he started working on the truck. First, he swapped the rear solid pane glass 'that was broken' for the slider window. Then, he tried mounting the cab, but was unsuccessful, the truck project got mothballed for years until 2010. Over a weekend he pulled the 305, tranny and case off off the frame and then again the truck was put back into storage. In March of 2014 i decided to pull the truck out and start working on it. The 86' cab had sat outside for almost a decade on a trailer by the time i got to work on it, so to say the least i had some work to do. I started by stripping off the ugly ass plastic trim and getting the cab sanded down, taped off to get it ready for paint. The next thing i did was strip the frame down to bare steel and paint it, then i mounted the cab on the truck frame and loaded it on a trailer. I pulled it to my brother-in-laws garage and painted it up, the color went on like a breeze but when i got to the clear coat everything went downhill. It ran like nothing i've ever seen, so i tried again. I wet-sanded the clear and i just went for it............ it still ran. My love for the truck was definitely fading and i was quickly running out of money [Keep in mind i was only 14] so i just put the truck back in storage.

So now that everyone is caught up on my epic story lets get back to the current state of the truck. I pulled the truck back home [I'm now 16 with my licence] and i purchased a rough country 4 inch suspension lift kit along with a 2 inch summit racing body lift kit. I just got done installing them just a couple weeks back and now ive moved on to getting a engine ready for it. Here are some pics of the engine and a few of my truck as it currently sits.

Ok guys, sent my TH350 trans off to get rebuilt and i got my 350 engine block tore down completely. I've got all the parts i need to build it from summit racing, a complete rebuild kit, new gaskets, new oil pump, new piston heads, new comp cam, ect ect. I'm waiting on a buddy to help me put it back together [He knows way more about engines than me] so i am hopeful that by the end of the month the engine/tranny will be mounted in the truck. Part one of the engine rebuild series will go live tomorrow at 6am and part two will go up after i get around to putting the engine back together.
