82 c10 update
« on: May 01, 2016, 06:10:10 pm »
Whats going folks. 82 c10 454 stock except for longtube into purple hornies dumped. Been awhile but finally got my project kinda sorted out. First off i had a really big issue with wot when i got the truck some months back. Every time i would try and floor it,  it was like someone just hit the brakes on the engine. It would just die instantly never actually cut off just a instant bog and no go. Thought it was a fuel problem, torque converter, vacuum issue etc. I had the original qjet on there which i dont mind but it had already seen its best days and 2 weeks ago truck wouldnt start popped the hood and found a puddle of fuel by the carb. So i replaced it today with a 625 cfm street demon. According to cfm equations and calculators and experience from others running 600s 650s  i pulled the trigger on the street demon. Mainly because of price when it comes to cfm. 220 reman from holleys ebay page. Carb looked used which they stated but it fired up on the turn of the key no questions. Adjusted the idle screw and that was it. Its a heck of alot more go than slow now. It was terrible off the line so much i considered swapping rear end gears not sure what i have now but at the time and a lil research i was guessing 2.73s. Anyway i still couldnt go wot without it wanting to just quit life. So i pulled out my timing light which i picked up right before qjet took a poop.

Once i had the light hooked up vacuum advanced unplugged i was running about 30ish atdc! I pulled back to about 16 btdc and viola she lets me give her heck now!! Best investment i bought for the truck yet besides the carb. Will always own one for now on.
