new style window motor in older truck
« on: May 14, 2016, 10:45:10 am »
Looking to replace the power window motors in my 81, and while shopping around for parts I have realized in 82 the motor changed. The 82 and newer motors look drastically different and are much cheaper. I can get 2 of the newer style for half the cost of one old style. So my question is, is there a way to use the new style of motor in my 81?

They used different gears. Older is a screw/worm gear at the edge of the motor and newer have a basic spur gear in the center.

I don't know how much different the regulators are. It may be the only way to swap over to the new motor, is to change to the newer regulator assembly also. That's if they bolt up to the door and glass the same. Maybe someone with greater knowledge on this will chime in.
