Wire on top of tranny
« on: May 29, 2016, 09:40:38 pm »
Can anyone tell me what this connection or wire does or goes to?  It's of a SM465 tranny

Probably out of a 1975 or earlier truck...

That's the TCS control switch.  If you pull it out it'll likely have 3996286 stamped on one of the wrench flats.
This switch grounds the TCS relay coil.  The relay opens the TCS vacuum solenoid and allows vacuum advance in fourth gear while the engine is under @94°F.  Above 94°F the TCS thermal switch in the RH cylinder head bypasses the Transmission switch.

The two wire switch is reverse lamps.

Thanks great info.   Do know what does it do and do I really need it.  It's part of the emissions if I can think right.  I know I'm missing pieces of that system anyway so do I need it and how can I take it out ..

If you have smog NAZIS in Albuquerque and it's a 73-75 you will need it.  Otherwise ignore it.

Well anything newer then 82 need a test but i have a 73 k10.  So don't need it.  But my issue is I have all these free wires all over my  Engine compartment and I would  like to eliminate as many as possible and clean up the engine compartment

That's not going to hurt anything if it's unplugged.
