Fuel Gauge not working
« on: November 03, 2016, 01:43:52 pm »
Hello Everyone,

I'm new here and was hoping that someone could help.  I recently purchased an '87 R10 Silverado.  The Fuel Gauge is stuck in the full position and does not work currently.  I've never worked on much mechanic or electrical wise, so I'm just wondering where I should start?  The seller told me that the LH tank also does not work so I'm wondering if that might be related to the problem with the gauge?  The switch in the dash is set to the RH tank.  What's the best way to diagnose the cause of the problem with the Fuel Gauge?

Thanks in advance

pictures are attached just to show off my new purchase.

Find the Technical Pages. There are several threads that will help. The valve that switches the tanks is inside the frame at the  right rear of the cab. The fuel tank sender could also be bad. There will be a fuel pump and sender in each tank. There is a ground wire from each tank that bolts to the frame. Clean them. If you would need a fuel pump, AC Delco EP381 is better than the stock pump. It's from 96 and newer pickups.
