Heater Core to Fire wall seal

Hi all, looking for the seal that would go around the inlet and outlet of the heater core, and up against the fire wall. my truck didn't have one when I pulled it apart, left a pretty good gap-would any sort of home depot/Lowes foam stuff work? NON-AC truck. Thanks

I think windshield seal, is the type of stuff they use.

for the inlet and outlet of the core through the firewall? you are talking about the butyl weathersrip caulk for windows right? comes in thin strip, about 15 ft or so per roll? I don't think that would work too well, there is quite a gap to overcome. I'll look into it though.

I had to do that a long time ago. If I remember correctly it came in a 4 seasons or a Murray box and was a roll of pliable seal about 1 inch in diameter. Break off to fit. It was sticky and would come off on my fingers like tar. I also used it to seal the A/C box around the pipe that holds the expansion valve. You could probably find it where you buy automotive A/C parts.

Yes that is what I was thinking....Don't know why you couldn't layer it.....but I've never tried either...

Well, what I ended up doing was using some pipe insulation, we use it on our pex pipe, around 190 degrees, and seems rather stable, says melting temp of about 300, so hopefully it works alright, just cut two thin disks from the 1/2" wrap and put it over the tubes and mounted the box; got rid of the gap. Total cost about $5 for a 4ft section(and only used like 2 inches) much better then $20 for a roll of the windshield seal.
