Leaf springs and air shocks and 5/7 drop?
« on: November 19, 2016, 05:58:15 pm »
Hey guys, I'm getting ready to buy the parts to correctly give my truck a 5/7 drop. I have a 82 c10 Scottsdale 2wd factory i6/3speed but swapped to 350/350. My question is what would be the correct amount of leaf springs in the back from the factory. Currently there's only two and I want to buy a new stock set to put on when I do my flip kit, c notch, and drop hangers. I'm not looking to lift or lower with leaf springs I just want the stock set so I feel better about my suspension and it's at the right height.

Also I'm looking for a set of air shocks just because I really like the ones on my buddy's 79 camaro and want to try them out. But I need a Set that will work with a 5/7 drop. If there is even a set that will work. Does anyone have any experience with them. Good or bad? I'm open to any suggestions. Thanks in advance.

You need to find out if your truck is equipped with 52 or 56" springs.  Measure the rear spring from the eye to the approx center of the axle (as best you can) if it is more than 26 you have 56, if 26 you have 52.

I personally wouldn't run airshocks on anything.  I would get shock extenders for a flip kit and run stock length shocks on the rear though.

Thanks capt. I prob will run regular shocks with shock extenders in the rear. What about the front shocks. Do I use drop shocks or stock length with a 5" front drop? Also I will measure the leafs as soon as I can.

And also does it matter that I'm going with drop hangers too or should I get drop shocks for the back
 Even with shock extenders

Drop hangers?  In addition to a flip kit?  Typically you don't combine those.  You need to check pinion angle if you do.  For the front the manufacturer should recommend a shock.

Thanks capt. I didn't know you shouldn't combine the two. Unfortunately I ran into some other problems today. When my alternator wire shorted out and I lost all power except headlights and tail lights. I still haven't figured that out. But tomorrow I will be doing alot of research and prob alot of wire tracing.
And philo beddoe that is basically my dream truck. Haha
