Driveshaft Lengthening?
« on: February 08, 2007, 07:51:00 pm »
Would I have to lengthen my front and rear driveshafts if I installed a 6" all spring lift on my '76 Chevy k20? I have heard that you have to, but if so then how do stores like Les Schwab get away with installing them on people's rigs without lengthening them?

That is kind of defined by how the truck is used. Some people are able to just put spacers between the frame and crossmember and be OK if they don't articulate much. Sometimes you can get away with a few degree wedge to change the pinion angle but this is not advised and mat wear u-joints and gears faster. As you are putting all spring lift, sounds like you want it to be usable off road. In any case, (my opinion) the "BEST" idea is to have shafts lenghtened so you keep all angles right and not create faster wear on drivetrain parts.
