Thinking more about it, I guess it would make sense that it only seats this far from looking at the front. I can’t see where the inner hub actually slides onto the crank into the timing chain cover so it may be more fully engaged than I’m led to believe but looking at the front.

If you are concerned about the key depth, I think you are overthinking.  The keyway is there to keep the balancer from walking around the crank.

Yes, I was thinking for some reason I should see more of the key, but I guess that doesn’t make sense. the key should be engaged enough I believe as long as the balancer is bottomed out. The balancer wouldn’t go on if it was misaligned. I’m probably overthinking it. Just on other equipment I’ve worked on that has had keys and slots on a shaft I could always see more engagement. Plus never done this before so wanted to make sure I didn’t mess it up.
