body mounts
« on: February 04, 2007, 02:21:00 am »
I've got a 79 4x4 with a lot of rust and a 84 2wd with a almost perfect body. I am going to put the 84 cab and bed on the 79 frame. Which body mounts do I want to use? Do I use the mounts for the 79 frame or for the 84 body? thanks for any info and any tips on doing this swap.

Use the mounts that match the cab.
Are they both auto or standard trans misions? or one of each? Your might need to put the 4x4 floor center section in the 2 wheel drive cab. If the 2 wheel is standard and the 4x4 auto you will need to swap the steering column or find one from a 79 auto as the 84 is most likly for a 4 speed auto. No biggy but the indicator will not read correct. If they are both standard you could still have a bit of work as I have had several 84s some hydraulic clutch and some linkage. Most of the 84s I had were linkage but had two that were built after the 10th month and they had hydraulic clutch. No hole in the floor and the clutch pedal itself is diferent. A linkage pedal will swap in no problem.

Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs

Thanks for the info. I knew that I had to put the center of the floor from the 79 into the 84. Both trucks are auto and the interior is out of the 84 so it should be easy to do. I'm not to worried about the steering column cause I want to swap in a 700r4 in the near future.
