Truck Bed - Cross member repairs
« on: May 10, 2006, 07:31:00 am »
Looking for some ideas on how to repair rusted cross member that sits between bed and truck frame?  Fortunately, other cross members are OK.  BTW, I have a 86 GMC C1500 and the truck bed is off the frame.

Thanks in advance.

Nice work on your truck. Its looking good.I'm not sure if anyone makes them, but I'm sure you could get one bent up at a fab shop.

Thanks for the feedback.  Looks the photo of it may not have uploaded properly?  In any event, most of you will know what I'm talking about.  Fab shop is a good idea, although I was thinking of just applying POR-15 to it, and for added strength attaching two metal pieces on either side and sandwiching the whole thing with screws (I don't have a mig welder).  This is going to be a daily driver so no one should notice :-)

thx

Couldn't see the pic you were talking about on you site, but photos have to be uploaded to the web and linked to this forum.  Depending on how bad it was, I would probably replace it with steel...

I have used box tube before to replace them.

Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs
