Things you find when you aren't looking.
« on: May 05, 2006, 07:33:00 pm »
I was installing telephone at this guys house last week and he had a 1987 1/2 ton 2wd sitting in his side yard. It had been rolled so I asked what the story was on his truck. He shook his head and said that was his old work truck that he freshened up just within the last year. He said he had put in a new GM 350 crate motor and had the 700R4 rebuilt and showed me receipts that totaled a little over $3,500.00 for the new motor and trans work. He said the motor and trans have less than 5,000 miles on them since being installed. He fired it up and I drove it down the street and it ran perfectly,it just didn't look pretty. He said I could have the whole thing for $1000.00, so I snatched it up before he realized what he said and changed his mind.

One of my buddies has been asking me for a while to sell him the engine/tranny/computer that I took out of my 89 suburban for my blazer. So after I picked this truck up for a grand I called him and told him $1,500.00 for my stuff and he snagged it up without hesitating. I am giving him the wiring and computer out of the 87 and motor and tranny from my suburban which I know nothing about other than it ran good when I removed it.

So I got an almost new motor and trans with receipts, and $500.00 for doing nothing except stripping the 87. Sweet deal if you ask me.

Passenger fender, single headlight core support, inner fenders, solid rear window, AC parts, wing windows, pass door glass, pass door could be fixed but not worth my time. Interior is basic and not in very good shape. Everything else is pretty much junk. He kept the bed to make a trailor but it was all bent up too.

After I strip the rest of the good parts off it's going straight to the junk yard. As far as the frame I think it may be twisted from the roll over the body lines between the bed and the cab didn't line up before he took it off. I don't know if this was the cab being bent or the frame, but I would say it's worthless.

As soon as I get it all stripped you are welcome to whats left.  Good luck sneaking it in the backyard without your parents noticing. I definitely don't want to be there for that.
