No reverse lights on 1 ton...
« on: May 17, 2006, 07:16:00 pm »
Hey guys,

For some reason the reverse lights don't work on my 1 ton. They have those universal tailights. I've traced the wires right back to the engine compartment and have checked the fuse. All are good.

I noticed a wire (two wires connected together - Dk. Blue And Green) with a  snap style connector on them hanging just under the cab. I think it's the one that plugs into my reverse switch on the transmission but it's all full of gunk and when i did plug it in they still didn't light up.

Any ideas? is this even where it does plug into or does it even have anything to do with my reverse lights?

i've got four wires running to the rear of the truck for the lights. A light green, dk green, brownish/black, and a yellow

Thanks!

You didn't mention if you have manual or auto transmission.  Makes a BIG difference.

Tell me something, do you have a volt meter and are you reading 12 v at the reverse light bulbs socket when trans is in reverse? YOu don't have to have motor running, just key half on and throw her in reverse.

She's a manual (4 spd). Yep, i've tried running a voltometer on the reverse wires (with the key turned ahead just a bit) and there is nothing. :\

The brake lights and markers work great though.

turn the key to run 2 clicks forward, 1 only unlock the wheel,
blue wire is 12 volt + ignition switched power in , green to light bulbs, jump the blue to the green and if ya have lights its the switch, if not check fuses and the wiring

Where is the switch? is the switch on the transmission?

Is this parallel bonded blue and green wire (that was hanging) supposed to be plugged into that plug-in on the transmission for my reverse lights to work?

Thanks.

My Haynes manuel shows a switch outside of the cab ,probably the one that you plugged in to.Try unplugging that harness and jump a small piece of wire from the blue to the green and see what happens. It won't hurt anything.

The two wires, blue and green, that you found are for the reverse switch, as you thought. You may not have cleaned the connector well enough to get a good connection. With the start switch in the 'on' position, you should see 12 volts at the blue wire. There may be a connector to hook it into on the drivers side of the tranny, on a plate..
