Is it possible?
« on: August 28, 2007, 08:45:00 pm »
I have a mint condition (bought new)1994 Chevy short wheel base 2WD, 5 speed manuel transmission. I also have a 1989 short wheel base 4WD - same transmission. The 4WD front and rear axles are in great shape as well as transmission and transfer case. Is it possible to make a 4WD out of my 94 with the 89 parts? Is that a difficult job or just plain work?

These trucks are not the same as the 73 - 87 but I am 99% sure the transmissions are not the same like our 2 wheel and 4 wheel transmissions are not the same. On top of that with the torsion bar front end you will have to cut all the brackets of the frame for the front end and weld them to the other frame. Plus like our trucks swap the rear leaf shackles over as the 2 wheel ones are shorter than the 4 wheel drive ones.
I would swap your cab and bed onto the 4 x 4 frame.
Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs

88-99 trucks as Blazin pointed out isn't the same as the 73-87 versions.  Although it is possible, the easiest solution would be to swap bodies (if you are determined) but I don't see the point when you have 2 good trucks with one being a 4x4 which you want..
