Single DIN box???
« on: July 31, 2007, 05:02:10 pm »
Is there any company that sells a prefit box that can mount under/to the dash of our style 73-87 trucks.  I want to update but will not cut on my dash.  I prefer to put my radio delete plate back on and mount it under the dash.  Just wondering.  Thanks in advance.

Ditto to that!  Been wondering that myself!  I know a guy I went to high school with that placed his stereo (standard DIN I believe) in the AC vent located just to the right of the dash; he'd disconnected the AC and wasn't using it anyway.  I just don't want to sacrifice my AC!

I did that in the truck my son is driving.  The truck did not have AC and the dash had AC vents.  Looks good, but my truck has AC and even if it didn't I wouldn't cut it up anyway.  I am finding there were not many Scottsdale trim levels out there and my dash is in too good of shape.

I've got an old kenwood shaft style in mine currently.  After I get it back on the highway (engine swap in progress) I'm toying with just running an MP3 player through a set of RCA plugs.  I don't use the factory ashtray and was thinking of making a plate to house them there; flip down the ashtray door to plug in the MP3/IPOD.  Gotta get her back on the road first though!

I have a late 70's top of the line Jensen shaft, when they made real quality but I was wanting to save it for my Chevelle.  I went from radio delete to an AM to a AM-FM mono with the single speaker in the middle of the dash.  I have the 4  stock speakers and wiring for the stereo setup but I haven't gotten around to putting it in.  Baby steps... Just don't drive the truck but maybe 2K miles a year.

Metra makes a universal under dash kit.  Most Circuit City and Best Buy's have them.
