Auto Trans to Manual Trans swap/conversion
« on: October 21, 2007, 11:10:33 pm »
Has anyone ever tried to swap a Th350 to a Manual 4 speed .I was trying to figure out the clutch pedal assembly? how would that bolt in where there was not one from the factory? I have heard you need the taller transmssion hump that is spot welded into the floorboard. Anybody ever tried this? Any experience would help. The truck is a 78 K10 half ton.

You shouldn't need to swap out the center hump as your cab is already 4x4.
What year is the donor truck you are taking the all the parts from?
You will only need to cut the hole for the shifter. You will need to loosen your column from the fire wall, dash, & unbolt the gasket/ plate that is around the column where it pases through the fire wall. Then you will need to unbolt your vacuum booster from the fire wall, & the other two nuts below it. don't undo you breaklines or master cylinder, just lay the whole assembly over onto the ,motor. That is what is holding your pedal bracket in. Drop the pedal bracket out and swap in the one that will except a clutch pedal. in about 81 / 83 ish they switch from SAE to metric studs fro the fire wall side if the pedal bracket studs. Is your donor truck linkage or juice clutch? If it is juice you will need to mount the reservoir on the fire wall, & run your line down to the bell housing area. If it is linkage you will need to cut and oval hole in the floor for the clutch rod to pass through, there are two little dimples in the floor where the clutch rod boot screws down. Just use them as a guide to cut an oval hole inside of them. you will need to remove the old trans., t case, flex plate, and both drive shafts. You will need to install a pilot bushing, or bearing in the back of your crank shaft, Put a fly wheel on in place of your flex plate. Need new fly wheel bolts as they are longer, use lock tight on them. Install a new clutch, don't screw around with a reman. Bolt up your bell housing, & trans. Might have to drill new holes for the cross member. install your t case and cross member. It been a while but I think it was shorten the front shaft and lengthen the rear one, or use the ones from your donor truck. if the cross measurement is the same on the u joints. Even if it isn't you can get a cross over u joint.
