Headliner w/Speakers - Truck Catalog
« on: January 08, 2008, 08:18:56 pm »
Hey Guys - I looked around to see if this topic had been discussed before, and from what I can see, it hasn't.

So...

Has anyone here had any experience with the Headliner w/Built-In Speakers listed in the   Truck Catalog?

Here is the URL: http://www. competitor.com/icatalog/cc/0093.asp

If I'm reading right, it also has a way to accept the stereo head unit, which really appeals to me.  I'm not looking for this to be my only source of sound, as I plan on some 6x9's and components elsewhere.

Any thoughts/opinions?

I have that in my truck. The speakers aren't the best but not bad.I have my radio in the dash but i was thinking about putting a cb up there. It is good quality and the dome light is bright. It is also a nice place to mount switches for lights and accessories.

If you care about stereo imaging, don't use the speakers AT ALL. Full range speakers placed that close to your ears behind you completely cripples your soundstage. Mine is an old one, that no longer has the speakers in it. I cut the center out to fit my CB, and it didn't have a dome light built in. The spot facing the driver right above the visors is a GREAT place to mount switches though. I posted some pics of the one I installed in my truck for somone wanting to see how they look installed in the parts for sale forum under the title hooker overhead console. Not sure what all has changed about them, mine looks pretty much like that one, except no dome light in the middle.

Those things have been available since the Late Seventies/Early Eighties originally only found through JC Whitney Catalogs..  They are fairly nice in construction, in comparison to a sagging/ no headliner at all, but the speakers are fairly cheap in quality/sound/desirable with imagining.

Convenience wise, it is handy for mounting a single DIN(Standard Compact Aftermarket Size) CB, CD Stereo/Player up out of site for security reasons.
