Where to buy a cap for my '84
« on: June 18, 2008, 08:22:31 PM »
A guy down the road from me has an 80 something short bed, but he does not do too much talking or head nodding when I pass by in my similar lifted longbox...dont know why.  Anyways, he has a real nice simple looking cap on 2 of his trucks and I wanted to know of any cap manufacturers out there since I am looking for one for mine.  I would even consider those convertible (soft top) caps too; they are pretty neat looking.  I dont use the truck for work anymore and the tonneau cover is going bad so I would like to try a cap and take it camping since its a long box.  Thanks for any leads or even any used ones someone is getting rid of in the Pittsburgh/Cleavland area.

Try your local Craigslist, I have seen several in my area at least.  Caps from a Ford works pretty well 1980-96 but don't taper in at the back like the ones meant for the 73-87 GM longbeds.  My $.02

The longbed shells are pretty easy to come by around here..I really want to find one for my shortbed, but they're pretty uncommon or VERY expensive..I would say I'd pick one up for ya here, but it might not be very effective to travel to pick it up..

Thanks a lot.  I will check craigslist.  I was hoping to find some manufacturer names.  Theres some I found but their site sucks so I do not know if they make any for my truck.  Anyone with photos of them on your longbox would be nice to see!  I would have to ditch the roll bar, but I can handle that if it looks good.  Thanks again for the help.

I guess I should say a bed topper.  I am used to calling them caps where I come from, but bed topper is another name for them.  I do not want a cover.  Makes it look like an SUV.  Thanks

...camper shells/toppers/caps are cab height or slightly taller, and make your truck look like a blazer.....
