Chevyman, I think I figured out what you got. In the '80's GM started using the word "Vortec", it was even on some 4.3 V6 engines in the full size trucks. What you have is not "the desirable Vortec" '96 & up with the roller cam, powdered metal rods,fast burn cylinder heads w/no heat crossover,ect. This is why I kept asking "how many intake bolts are there?" Your heads do have 6 holes per head, correct? Hate to be the one with the bad news, but I feel what you got is just a '87 350 with a flat tappet cam & ho hum heads. Lorne
