Coolant in oil.
« on: March 03, 2008, 09:43:51 pm »
Okay put the stock crap back on. Got the disty back where it is supposed to go. The intake gasket and intake didn't seal the first time, so took it back off and reinstalled. No leaks. The first time the the coolant got in the oil. So I started it not realizing this and alot of smoke came out the exhaust. So shut it off and checked the dipstick (milky) So i drained everything and let it drain overnight. Came back today and put new oil in it. Still smoking and still milky. Do I let it warm up to operating temp to burn the coolant and water out? Or do I run a flush? Or pull the spark plugs out and crank it to get the water out? Probably I am wrong I just don't want to break my engine.

Pull your plugs and spin the motor over a couple of times to get most of the colant out. Change your oil again and let the motor run until the smoke is gone.
GET IN, SIT DOWN, SHUTUP, AND HANG ON

Big Ten, Right now you probably think I cursed you! Unfortunately, I have to disagree with Jonkmbll, What your describing concerns me. I don't want to snuff out your desire (as I stated in the earlier post) but STOP! NOW! Do not run it. Lets try to figure this out before you wipe the cam &/or bearings out or hydraulic your engine. For enough water to get in the exhaust to make "allot" of smoke, it is going down into the combustion chamber & getting pushed out the exhaust (since you had no water in the oil before, likely in intake gasket). The water in the oil isn't going to make "allot" of smoke, there isn't (shouldn't be) enough oil in the chamber to have water in it to smoke "allot". You say the oil is milky again after you  changed it. Unfortunately, It sounds like you still have some leaks (or one, some going in the head & some going down to the oilpan). You need to pressure test the coolant system & see if it holds (likely not) & go from there. Please do this before running the engine anymore. Lorne

I pulled the spark plugs out and cranked it. Drained the "milk." New filter and oil....NO SMOKE. This truck runs better than it did. At idle oil pressure at 20 psi, operates like it should. I am very happy that nothing broke during this, lol.
