4l60e from astro into 99chevy?
« on: March 07, 2008, 01:45:04 pm »
hi all, i know its not a question about my favorite 84 gmc truck, its about my newer 99 chevy. i have a rebuilt transmission believed to be the 4l60e from a 97astro van, and was thinking of swapping for my beaten up 4l60e in the 99 chevy 1500 4x4 4l60e. is there any forseeable issues from vehicle change or year change? i'm not 100% about it being a 4l60 in the astro, but i will know soon. thanks, andrew

Andrew, You would have a 4L60e in the Astro. Is the Astro an AWD? If it's a rear wheel drive only, the output shaft is different in length than your truck. That's a start, Lorne

And to change it you have to pull it all the way down.  Might as well do it to the bad on in the 99 as it will have all the updates up to that year, and have the correct shaft.

alright thanks alot, i'm not gonna bother with it, the astro is just going to a scrap yard likely anyway, i'll just wait till i find a direct swap. thanks again!

If you are scrapping it, I would pull the trans out...  I am not saying it is junk, just that to make it 4x4 version you have to take it completely apart.

Definitely! You may need some hard parts to have your truck tranny fixed. If you take it out & give it to the guy fixing yours, he may be able to use parts in your truck tranny,if not he may be able to fix a friend's or do a warranty job cheaper on him. It never hurts to be helpful to the ones that you need help from. Lorne
