My burbs...
« on: February 25, 2008, 09:59:42 pm »
Well i have 3 burbs now. My question is, did i get a good deal?

The first one i bought last year, its an 87 1/2 ton with barn doors and buckets...it runs good and has a rebuilt tranny and rearend. I paid 200 for it! but it came with lots of rust!

I just bought an 81 and an 85 today both are 3/4 tons and have tailgates and bench seats. Neither have a motor but one came with a turbo400 tranny. Both have rust free bodys and are clean all around. I picked them up for 800 for the pair!

I'm going to try to make the 85 the keeper and use the rest for parts and then sell what is extra. Otherwise i'll take the bodys to the crusher. I will be willing to sell most anything off of the trucks.

But do you think i got a good deal??

Also how much am i looking to pay for a motor to drop in one of them?

Sounds like the only body you should be sending to the scrap yard, is the rust bucket(my feelings till I see pics of the condition!!)....
As for a deal, Uh Yeah and why do you think you haven't gotten any comments besides mine :P

Try to save and sell what you can! Sounds like you should be able to able to get your money back by selling parts, and the Sub you don't want 8)

Can we see a pic of all 3? My best guess for you is to build 2 good ones out of the 3 and find some more sweet deals on engine/tranny combos. Build 1 that you like, and just build 1 that runs that you can sell for $1500 or so, and then you'll have made your money back. You did get titles on all 3, correct?

Thanks for the replys guys. I did get titles for 2 so far. The guy applied for an open title on the other. It should be here hopefully soon. If not, we go to small claims court! He signed a paper stating that he would have 14 days to apply for the title. (the truck was from an police auction)

I would say all 3 are decent. The rusty one isnt that bad...just your lower door parts n what-not. No real rust underneeth and floors are solid. I will post up some pictures soon.

How much would a 350 motor run? I would like it to run with little to no work. I don't want to spend too much money on one.

As far as keeping and building all 3 or even 2 its something i can't handle right now. I don't have the space for 2 let alone 3 lol! Thanks again guys!

Where are you located? Around here in the Georgia, NC, SC, TN area we have a trading post paper called "Iwanna". It runs $1 and has loads of used cars, trucks, parts, etc. in it. They even have a big section that spreads it all out over "intake, exhaust, engine, drivetrain, transmissions, etc." in alphabetical order. It has been a very useful tool for me. I've gotten quite a few deals through it, and sold a lot of my stuff in it. Selling your stuff is free in it, too. You just have to keep the words to a limit, and no pictures.

Thanks for the reply! I will have to check to see if we have something like that paper here. So far craigslist.com is pretty good.
