I was reading another post and got to thinking about my project. I'm taking a cab from an 87 and installing it on my 84 4X4, the 84 is 4 wheel drive with a larger hump section, and the 87 is a 2 W/D with the lower center hump section. I already know I have to cut into the floor of the 87 to make it work, but the cab or the 84 really isn't bad and I don't want to cut into it if I don't have to.

The center hump section that bolts into place would work great for my needs (if I can locate one that is?) My question is does someone know where I can get on of these new or used? As long as it's in decent shape I don't mind buying one used, I'd much rather do that than cut up a decent cab. The only reason I'm doing all of this in the first place is I want A/C and fuel injection in my truck that doesn't have it now. It's a lot easier to install the cab that has the complete setup for the a/c and fuel injection wiring that to pull piece by piece out and transfer it from one to the other.

Thanks for your time.

That panel is only available used from a salvage yard.

Thanks for that piece of information, I'm sure it will save me a lot of time looking for something that doesn't exist. I did however call in some favors at a few yards I deal with since you told me this, so far they're scarce as hens teeth. If all else fails I'll just end up cutting the section out of the 4X4 cab which I'd rather not do just because the cab isn't in that bad a shape.

By the way, if anyone reads this and is waiting to call the scrap yard because you may need something they have? I was informed by one of these people and he said they are crushing cars as fast as they can because the scrap steel price is through the roof. He even said they don't mess with too many parts unless the customer takes them off just because they want to make the big money as fast as they can. So don't wait if you know something exists out there, it may be gone by the time you go back to get it.

Ok I'm Slow, so why is that you are swapping Cabs, since the 84 already has a good floor ???  If there is other problems with the 84 Cab, then why not repair them with pieces for the 87, or just get aftermarket pieces???

He wants AC and the new cab has it. He dasn't want to hack up the good old cab.

Hi Dragon, One of the reasons was indeed I want to add AC to my truck as pointed out by Blazen. But the 87 Cab has all of the wiring setup and computer (although a small one) for the fuel injection I'm adding to the 84. So I'm actually getting the best of both worlds here, a nice 84 frame and running gear and the 87 sheet metal with newer options. I could have kept the 84 cab in place and swapped the AC unit and all wiring etc, but found it would actually be better and most likely faster if I just used the 87 total cab with everything already in it.

Yesterday with some help and 35 minutes we removed the cab and bed off of the 84, along with the bed off of the 87. After checking both trucks and their cabs I believe I have a better more sound cab on the 87, so I didn't go wrong using the newer stuff. Oh, I had everything unbolted and de-wired so all the help did was actually pick the stuff up and off of everything. If I could have gotten these guys to go that fast without damaging any metal work or cutting wires I would go into business doing this for a living (ha ha). I wanted you-all to know they just used their muscle for a bit, and didn't do any technical work (I wonder if they read this site??). A great bunch for sure, short notice and lots of effort.

Thanks for the replies showing me different places to find or help find the center hump section, those bad boys are harder than hen's teeth to find. Just because I'm starting to really roll on this thing I'll most likely just cut the section out of the 4X4 Cab. I have the cab sitting on it's back (where the back glass is it's sitting on the grass) so I can see and do exactly what I need to. Plus the simple fact I know what I have which is a nice clean solid hump section. But thanks for all of your help.

Hey Braver Banker, you don't know how much I appreciate the offer. I would definitely come and get it if I lived closer but I'm in southern Maryland and that would be a hump going to get another hump (yuck yuck).

Who knows I may still get lucky, right now I'm doing everything I can possibly do while the cab and bed is off of the frame. I'm still converting wiring and doing engine work to make my  engine a fuel injected one from one that uses a carburetor, so I still have a lot of swapping parts and wires before I'm ready to install the cab. It may be during this time I may find one yet.

But thanks so much for the offer.
