power steering problem

ok, so i dont know if im just bein stupid or what lol, but i cannot figure out how to get the pulley off of my power steering pump. I got a new pump and am in the process of replacing it until last night when i ran into the problem of tryin to get the pulley off. i tried a pulley/gear remover and that wasnt doin it. it looks like on the face of the pump though that it can fit an allen wrench in there  , i played with that too for awhile and no results...so i am stuck now. help, please.

It is simplest with a power steering pulley puller. The basics are the halves go into the groove on the center nub of the pulley & the mandrel in the middle push it off. I'm sure it can be removed other ways, but this is best. Check the shaft placement compared to the nub on the front of the pulley & put it on the new pump that same amount for correct belt alignment. Virtually all of them are flush. Any auto parts store should have the puller. Lorne

produce from your pocket a portion of pennies to pick up a pretty powerful powersteering pulley puller, preferrably not purple. Patiently put the pulley puller in place and pry the persistent pulley off the pump with the pulley protruding from it.  Then quite possibly, the problematic poor pulley is parted from the parent pump so as not to be  pesky permanent feature of the powersteering pump for prosterity. Then phone your pappy to be your partner to play a game of ping pong.

Sorry guys, I had to...the urge was too great when speaking of a pretty powerful powersteering pulley puller.

bmaier: Stop in your local Autozone.  They will loan you the tool you need for up to 90 days and you just pay a deposit (which is the cost of the tool, about $25-30).  If you keep it beyond 90 days, you bought it.  If you return it within the 90 days, the full deposit is refunded.

Oh, I just looked at your profile.  The closest AZ is in Fargo (wich is the Coen bros best movie BTW).  Well, the tool isn't much if you order it from Harbor freight or the like.  This look the be the one.

sarge, you're a riot lol, that was good. as for everyone else, thank you for the info on that tool. i remember now awhile back that my friend said he needed a tool to do his power steering pump but i thought nothin of it...until now that is lol.
