converting dummy light to gauge
« on: September 21, 2008, 07:50:42 pm »
I have a 1985 m1008 (k30 mil) that I am re-working into a daily driver.  It has a dummy light setup, that I want to convert to factory gauges, but im having a few small problems.
The factory dummy light setup is 4wd, and oil pressure across the top, and gen 1 and gen 2 for dual alternators on the bottom.   I bought a used cluster, and the pigtail that connects to it, and also new sending units however I am having a few small issues with the convert.

1.  My oil pressure gauge is hot to touch.  It works fine, shows proper pressure, etc.   The wires connected are not hot but the dash is warm above the location, as is the actual oil gauge.   Water temp works fine, fuel gauge works fine, Alt #1 works fine, and I havent done Alt 2 yet.

2.  I have various pink w/black strip wires that some will not match.

3.  I have a white wire that i can not match.

I have a constant power orange wire, that I am unsure of its actual location.  When i connect it to the common for the water temp/oil it makes the gauges work, just have the concearn with the oil temp.

Any help, diagrams, etc?  Thanks

these are hard to do without pics.

pink/black wire is usually fuel guage.

white is usually lighting wires.

orange for ignition wires.

there are some diagrams posted, do a search for "wiring" or "diagram" or "guage"

Can I assume this is a diesel? If so, double check the wiring schematic if you're repinning wiring based off of a gas engine setup. They may very well be different.
