hey thanks again guys! i'm about to do a triple post in the members projects forum once i find more info on a 5.3/4l60e conversion. i have been searching and reading everything i can find on the swap on 68-72 forums and ls1tech forum. i still have more ?'s than answers mostly about the wiring and whats needed to stay emissions legal. and/or even where to start... i have a line on a 5.3 out of a 2wd 2002 tahoe w/ 54k miles for $1,200.

the tire size is 295/50/15 all the way around.  the front is all pst bushings, ball joints, ect. w/ 1 coil cut out of the stock springs. the rear is just 3 leafs taken out for now. cant really haul anything too heavy, not that i would want to anyways.

i have bell tech drop coils but it wasnt enough of a drop and rode too rough. going to get the spindles next time around.

Those slots are sweet!  They look great on your truck.   ;D

You might want to check out Cordova Truck Dismantlers.  They are local and stock both the LS1 motors and transmissions.  Their guys are very knowledgeable about that swap.  Did anyone here get back to you with answers on a 5.3 L motor swap?
(I was considering it myself, but went the old-school big-block route instead)

no no one has got back to me. i'll check out cordova dismantlers. i went out to pick and pull yesterday and poked around a bit for bucket seats and to see if there were any 700r4 trans (original plan) that looked decient but every thing was pretty well picked through. i almost stopped at that gm dismantler but it was so dang cold and everytime i've been there they have been over priced anyway but there knowledge may be worth it.

i am just wondering about the a/c and cruise control because most guys are smoothing out there firewall so not sure if i need the heater box. i dont want to do something and have to go back because i should have done something else at the time and i'm not going to do this half way. just trying to get a good solid game plan/ knowledge base before i jump in and start tearing apart a perfectly running truck. i want everything to work and pass smog. thanks for the feedback buddy! You should also check out LS1truck's forum.  They have a section dedicated to LSX conversions and there are a few 73-87's there.  Not that I'm recommending them over the guys here, but if you are looking for info, you should consider all your available resources.

The best thing you can do for yourself is get an accurate list of all the little nuts and bolts you'll need to really finish the job.  Those little costs add up fast and a good shopping list now can put the project cost into perspective, so you don't get overwhelmed, run out of funds, and leave the project half-finished for 3 years.
