12bolts were never floating, only 14bolts.
A number of gears could be in it and it could or could not be a posi. Pop the cover and you can find out both fast. The ring/pinion count is stamped on the gears...

which rear diff are you referring to? i think capt said the ratio is stamped in the ring (have to pull the cover to read it)
