Well you cant tell by looking at an engine what exactly it is.....like 283-400sbc they're almost Identical jus small differences like some 283's and 327's had the big 3/4'' plug instead of a the normal 5/8''. this motor started its life as a 350, but now its a 388.

nice, i have been reading on that and been thinking of taking the project of making a 350 into a 383. some sites suggest that it only involves getting a 400 crank into a 30 bored 350 block and getting more length in the pistons? is there additional steps that I'm missing?

You have to take a grinder to the block to clear the rotating assembly.

Ok, i have seen some videos about it from Eagle cranks, they say they already prefit the cranks so very little clearance has to be done, anyways thanks for the responses. Do you use the same camshaft and heads?

if you are talking about the same heads as the stock 350, yes you can use the same heads.

you can go on so many different suppliers like summit and have premade cranks for stroker engines.  It's a piece of cake now like putting together a puzzle.  You can get the kits with rods, pistons, crank, etc., and just throw it together.

THERE is still some grinding to be done with buying stroker kits. because not every block is cast the same

From my understanding every stroker (350 to 383 or similar variations) has to have the block ground for clearance.  I don't think Sgt. Del is suggesting the kit eliminates that, but makes everything else plug and play.
