Not sure if your front Hitch was installed by the Military or a prior owner.
Of the 11 Cucv's I've owned, 2 had a front hitches.
They were both on a M1009 Blazers.
1 truck was owned by a police department and had a Reese hitch, real nice set up.
The other truck had a hitch that the previous owner made himself, let's just say I hope his day job isn't working as a hitch maker.

don so far i have prob 6k rapped up into this crew cab cummins swap. now after that if i want to sell some extra stuff off i could recoup 1.5-2k in parts that i wont be using. but im probably looking at spending more want to take some modern day seats out of a crew cab or burb or tahoe. might have to make  a road trip and visit some family that owns a junkyard. problem is i havent spoken to them in years and they're my wifes side. last time i was up there they gave me a bumper for a rental i crashed, when it cam time to pay for it he looks at me cause there was other customers around and says "ill tell you what, you take it home if it dont fit then you dont have to pay" and winks at me. really nice people wish i knew them better.

Also the charge is $60 for a inspection. Since I had full floating rear they charged an extra $30 for a half hour worth of work

That tie rod could be part of your death wobble problem, it was on my Dana 60.
Sounds like they do a thorough safety inspection. I'm glad to see that.  I feel for the people that can't add performance parts to the motor due to emission regulations, but I'm all for strict safety inspections. I like to think we are all on top of the maintenance on our vehicles, but for a lot of people the yearly inspection is the only time anyone checks on the vehicle.

in maryland they tear the truck apart too them 2hrs on mine due to the full floater lol. but i know i never smelt gas before but thats all you can smell now around the drivers side tank. didnt notice any fuel being spilled out. so im driving on that tank right now just to empty it and drop it. but maybe tomorrow ill crawl under her and see what i can see. i know the selector valve is on the passengers side so maybe he (inspector) just pulled on the hose and it broke it, idk but more than likely it needed to be replaced if it was that brittle. in maryland the initial inspection is a good safety check but as long as you keep the vehicle on the road you dont have to get it reinspected ever.

so 20 years could go by and your truck could be falling apart and blowing smoke but your still good. as long as a cop doesn't give you an inspection ticket meaning you now have 30 days to get your vehicle to pass inspection. most time when kids cut their cats off and act a fool cops will just give them a inspection ticket. kind of makes the cops job easy and he still gets his point across.

i also could of just got historic tags for this truck then i would just go to MVA do the title work and get the tags $50 for 2 years. but your not supposed to drive it for commercial purposes or a dd. just to and from car shows or events. but like i been saying its a family vehicle so i knew if it had any safety problems the inspection should find them

Got the tie rod replaced and rigged up a steering stabilizer.  Then got on the dash light problems, was able to get the all the dash light working but took the dash apart to try and get the high beam and brake light working to no luck. Then I put it back together and lost all dash lights. Found bd's write up about the dash lights but the brake and high beams idk

Found my problem for the dash lights was a broken ground on  the printed circuit board.  Fixed it my using a jumper from the ground prong on the pigtail to a light bulb ground in the dash.

Then I got the ideal about the brake light, that I could just jump some wires off the seat belt light. But when I was testing it I grounded out another lead on the dash caused some sparks but ended up loosing my gas, speedo and check engine light. Briefly checked a couple fuses with no luck. Which fuse is it? Or is there something else I'm missing?

Irish I bet something is NOT grounded. I ran into a similar problem with my 79 the other day. When we would try to start it sparks flew from alt bracket, negative  cable end started smoking etc. Then it would not turn over. I mean nothing. I started pulling fuses. I could not find anything wrong with the fuses. I thought I had really blew it. I figured out what the problem was. I had placed the ground cable between two washers on the alternator bracket. I took it apart and removed the top washer. I put the battery on charger. I bought a new cable while the battery was charging. After hooking everything back up, I started it up. It was fine. I was very relieved.

My point is that it was something simple. I would check all grounds first. I will admit that I am not an electrical whiz either but that is my advice. ;D I wish you good luck.

PS-let me know if you want to sell some parts. I could make a road trip over to Maryland from WVA. ;D

Just started thinking about it. My rigging won't work for the brake indicator. Its still not getting a hot constant so when you use the emergency brake the light won't ground and light up

ok so i got everything to work again except the 2 second the brake light indicator lights up when you first turn the key over. its getting 12v so the e brake switch is good and the proportion valve both test good when grounded. so its just the initial key on thats getting to me.

The Ignition Switch grounds the Brake Indicator when
the Ignition Switch is turned to START to provide a quick
check of the Brake Indicator Bulb and circuitry.
 where is this ground at?

So I got everything working except the brake light for the system check. Went to my 84 k30 it doesn't do the system check either. So I called the place I took it to talked to a guy think his name is Bob. Well he said if it was him doing the inspection he wouldn't of failed it cause of the test. He did say technically it has to work but as long as it works when the e brake is engaged he would be happy. So tomorrow I'm going to stop by and see what they say in person
