On a side note, I had some free time so I threw 2 cans of engine enamel at my air filter housing. It was looking pretty bad with the old original paint.

Before

After

I know it's not on topic but no reason to create a new post for just a small thing with a few pics.

That turned out looking great! What kind of paint did you use? I know you stated engine enamel, just curious what kind? I need to repaint my factory air cleaner assembly as well, especially since that's really the first thing you see when you open the hood. Something to put on the to-do list! Lol!

Duplicolor semi-gloss black engine enamel. Anything and everything under my hood that I want black I use this paint and this paint only. I used Chevrolet orange on my cylinder heads but everything else is black. It holds up excellent, the heat rating, ceramic properties and oil/grease resistance is very good. I love the stuff, use it alot. It's professional stuff.

Old can design

New can design

Both are exactly the same and both are $6.99 at local O'Reilly's. Probably all new can design now tho.

Cool thanks! Luckily I have an O'Reilly's right up the street from me. It's usually where I go for my auto parts unless I can find it cheaper elsewhere. They should have that in stock.

That's the color it would have been originally.

I know, 77 was the blue engine era, right after the orange. But the crate is already gm factory black. Why strip off the black, prime and paint all over. More time and $$. Not a show truck.

Or else i would love to have it blue. What would it entail anyway?

No need strip brand new engine paint from the new engine, it's engine paint, leave it there. You could just make sure it's completely clean and then blast it with some engine primer and then GM blue. My short block didn't come with any paint at all and my heads were already orange, so I just swapped the heads to the short block, I didn't care how it looked, (I was on a bit of a time deadline tho during that time).

Ok, summit racing has the good dupont ceramic stuff, chevy blue. A couple cans should do it. Oil pan can stay black i guess.

The O'Reilly you said is near you should have it and if they don't they should be able to get it. You only get free shipping from Summit if you spend over $99. So 2 $7 dollar cans isn't really worth buying online. It would be faster and cheaper just to run to the store and pick them up the next time you need to go to O'Reilly.
