Would an adapter from a np241 have worked instead of the 208 adapter? Thought i read somewhere that the pads were in a different spot off to the side, so it wont hit the pan.

So with the LS swap with a 4l80e being longer than the turbo 400. If you use the "insert name brand" ls swap brackets that can adjust the ls 2.5" forward in the engine bay, would this account for the longer transmission and allow the transfercase to be in Stock location?

Ive read so many different things about 4l80e to 205 or 208 im confused. would like a definite answer about what i need to buy or do.

The adapter part number is for the NP261/263.  By 1999 the NP208 and NP241 were no longer in use and the NP26x was LH drop.  All of the round pattern 1980's and beyond NP208 NP241 NP261 NP263 etc use the same bolt pattern.  It's just a matter of getting the correct LH/RH side drop transfer-case for your chassis with the correct input spline count to mate with your transmission output shaft. 
The older NP205 is where it gets mildly exciting because there were at least two different bolt patterns.   I didn't study the NP205 that much because I wasn't going to use one...

The length issue is just a matter of moving the transmission/transfer-case crossmember on the frame rails and shortening/lengthening the driveshafts. 
If you move the engine forward the needed amount the driveshafts should be OK and maybe even the crossmember.  The trade-off is where that places your fan and accessory drive parts in relation to the radiator and fan shroud.
