Would I need a fuel pressure regulator with that one? What psi is that one?

I have never used a regulator on a stock pump with a carb.  They operate fine at 5-7lbs.
When you get into drag racing and high RPM's is when you need a better pump as the pressure drops off at high RPM due to the arm not getting enough recovery time to produce suction.

Which carb though? The stock Quadrajet or the edelbrock 1406?

I'm thinking about just going with the cheaper fuel pump and running a pressure regulator and pressure gauge. Riddle me this, though.. Wouldn't it be better to run the fuel filter in line before the regulator and gauge? So that it would clean any contaminants before they reach those?

Anyway, along with the fuel pump Captkaos suggested, I'm thinking about going with these:
Holley 12-803 Fuel Pump Fuel Pressure Regulator
Mr. Gasket 2975 Fuel Pressure Gauge Adapter
Mr. Gasket 1561 Fuel Pressure Gauge

Unless anyone has better suggestions for the same/cheaper price.. I'm not looking to dump a lot of money into this, not yet. Or maybe Summit Racing parts, but I haven't had a chance to really look on there, yet.

Edit: Summit Racing parts I may get instead...
Summit Racing® Fuel Pressure Regulators SUM-G3032
Summit Racing® Fuel Pressure Gauge Fittings SUM-G1710C
Summit Racing® Fuel Pressure Gauges SUM-G3122

i wish i had more time to help, because this info is interesting and could be useful.

1) Please stay away from Mr. Gasket.  This is all i will say about the subject.  (the fact that i said that this is all i will say about the subject in and of itself says something....)

2) You may want to email Carter;  They have got to have something with lower pressure or know something you could use.

Sorry just don't have time to research.

If it was mine I would go with a Delco pump and a Q jet or the Edelbrock. I have my inline filter before the mechanical pump and there is a second filter inside the Qjet. Never had a need for a pressure regulator.
