Do you have any pics of the under hood parts? I think I can visualize what you're saying, but it would be nice to see.

No pics...But ill get some...I got the idea frome Horsepower Tv...It was a drag car anyways...And i made the fiber glass shroud my self with fiber glass and i made the mold out of foam...I think it all cost me 100$  40 for the hood scoop 10 for bolts and washers and paint and the fiber glass and foam Sure beats the 500$ for a cowl...More bang for your buck

Did you fabricate a seal for the cowl induction hood yet?

I have seen more proven power with the ram air/ snorkel type setup Most core suipports on these trucks have another hole in the core support filled in with a dummy plug. I have removed the plug, added another norkel tube to my existing air cleaner, and the bug gaurd from the right side of a donor core support, and if done right, It actually looks factory. A big problem around here is young kids doing inspections and dumb rules about having the factory snorkel and heat riser tube in place, or no inspection. I can't get my wifes 81 inspected because the factory air cleaner will not fit the new 540hp 468 and clear the hood. I guess it's time for classic taggs that don't require inspections, but limit it to other than daily driving. The open element sounds more impressive, but the hot air ingestion kills the performance.quarter mile ET's prove that theory. I know race cars have open elements, but the don't run enough to get as hot as street vehicles.

Yeah I've decided to go with a "ram air box" setup when I swap motors, since it utilizes a 14x4 element and dual snorkels..I've already got a spare 4" factory bug guard from my '84 that will go on the drivers side in that cutout. I currently use a 14x3 chrome air cleaner. Inspection stations here don't even open the hood. Doing it this way also saves me the expense of a cowl hood, and it'll also let my truck keep a lower profile to be less of a target for would be thieves and vandals. The Predator 10k thats going on a fender mount is going to make it stick out bad enough..

Choptop, No, it was originally a 4.3 V6. This is my second Olds powered pickup. The other one is a '78 4x4 longbed. Thanks for the complement, Lorne

I asked because the olds swap was common in the first diesel trucks, but after I posted I realized this was post 5.7 deisel. Had a friend with a 426 out of an olds toranado in his,and it was awesome. The dual snorkel setup will not only disguse your truck from theives, but also make it more of a sleeper. I can;t remeber the exact trucks, b ut many had a tall air cleaner( which is either a 3 or 4 " element, I never measured it) is perfect to modify to a dual snorkel, and will accept a k/n with no probs. should be able to get one in a junk yard cheap unless you already have one
