Android Auto in 73-80 Dash
« Reply #346 on: October 09, 2024, 10:26:58 pm »
Found this thing...  LAMTTO 9.26"  display.    Got me some android auto in my truck.

Thought long and hard, and the way I installed it looks like most moderan cars screens.  As in looks like they finished the dash and then stuck on the screen as an afterthought.  Well I'm good in that department.
All my other cars have it, the truck needed it too.   For all you guys gonna feel like I ruined my dash, if it was pristine I would have never done it but since its cracked now I did the deed.

It works well, connects to the existing stereo through bluetooth and sounds good.  The FM thing sounded terrible.   It fits the dash in this old truck as good as most new cars screens fit their dash...  as in eh good enough.  it doesnt wiggle around, it is mounted strong (so far)  and works wonderfully for the two things I need it to do.  which is spotify and google maps or waze.

I've seen lot of guys trying to put screens in the stock radio place.  thats a big no go, number one I'd break it off with my knee and its unusable for maps.  youll crash into something while trying to read the map at knee level.

so, here's what I decided to do.  I'm very happy with it.  it works and its too visible from the outside.  And it's also where I wanted for years for a double din radio to be at.

New Alternator Incoming.   Currently has a cheap acdelco cs144 i took off the camaro while it was sitting.  Well its cheap crap too and the bearings gone bad like they always do in the Z.

Got a mechman for the camaro, no more problems after.  So I bought another mechman 170A (smallest amp size) for the truck that fits where the stock 10si did.  got to change the wiring harness obviously.  Gonna put it in when weathers warm.  almost there.

It is a serpintine setup because I have the early camaro pulleys with v belt for ps and ac but 4 rib for alt.

mechman done won me over for life.

They cost more yes.  but they're worth more.  they last.  no more crap ac delco alternators.  they fixed my camaros alternator problems by not making their parts out of crap.  so i bought another one for the truck.  i dont expect to have to mess with it again for years.  I cannot recommend mechman enough.

Alt costs $350-400 but its the last one you gonna buy.  Beats buying multiple $130 units.  remember always factor in your labor costs.   yeah you didnt take it to someone but your time cost $$$ too.  your time is the most expensive.
