Fuel tank interchange
« on: February 19, 2008, 03:27:01 PM »
Hey guys, I was wondering what model year fuel tanks were interchangeable. I want to build a custom setup on my '91 when I get it here so to delete both intank pumps, but need to know what tanks fit what years.

Also, anyone know the fuel pressure rating on the 454 TBI's?

The tanks for a EFI are the same from 87-91.  They come in 2 sizes, but Crew Cabs take a 20gal tank.  You CAN put any 73-87 20 gal tank in it, but it won't have the baffling in the tank..

Why would you want to delete the intank pumps?  Having them in the tank is a MUCH better/prefered design.  It isolates the noise, and it keeps the motor cool, extending the life of the pump.

TBI's ran from 12-18lbs and was regulated to 12-13 at the TBI unit.

Not only that but when you have a high pressure after the pump and a low pressure before the pump you run the risk of lowering the boiling point of the fuel and as temps increase can cause vapor lock. The in tank pump is the best way to go.

Yes, it is around the pump to help keep it submerged.
