If you are supposed to have cats then I agree with Dragon on the universal cats, they are small and free flow. Put a universal H pipe http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=SUM%2D642025&N=700+4294921571+115&autoview=sku You cant use an X pipe on 4x4, transfercase is in the way. I used the kit from this site, minus the x pipe. I personally love the pypes exhaust and agree that EVERYONE has flowmaster. Pypes mufflers are fair priced (approx $75ea) compared to most out there and sound great with a built motor. http://www.pypesexhaust.com/sounds-gm-abody.html (I hope its ok to post these links) I'm going to use the violater mufflers with X pipe on my chevelle. From the headers to the cats you can piece together with pre bent pieces also from summit. I used 2 of these;http://store.summitracing.com/egnsearch.asp?Ntt=hed+18806&searchinresults=false&Ntk=KeywordSearch&DDS=1&N=700+115 on the passenger side to go around the transfer case and a straight one on the drivers side. Its a little time to piece it together, some measuring and cutting and these clamps; http://store.summitracing.com/egnsearch.asp?Ntt=wlk-33240&searchinresults=false&Ntk=KeywordSearch&DDS=1&N=700+115&x=29&y=7  help hold it together to mock up or if you dont want to weld.

We carry everything Pypes sells and they hi-flow cats are about $70 apiece I think, their mufflers are $50 for the pair if you get the kit from us.  They are also stainless.  If you are looking for a 4x4, it won't work.

I would check those band clamps for slipping, we put a STS turbo on a F-body and he pieced his exhaust together with that stuff and didn't want us to flange it (didn't want to spend the money).  He blew the exhaust off on the way home and then said all the power from the turbo was gone and we didn't know what we were doing.  Had to remind him that the turbo is connected to the exhaust and without it, you don't have a turbo..

I used your exhaust kit on my K30 minus the x pipe, and it was the best price I could find. You can make it happen on a 4x4.

It can be made to work, but the X can't.
Nice work BTW....

Well i assume that cats restrict exhaust flow, at least a little bit.
With that said, you can get High-Flow aftermarkets that offer little to no restrictions, even at an affordable cost when you go with a Universal(most of which you can get for $50-100 each, if you shop around)...

But do those filter enough to make the vehicle pass it's emissions test?

I dont know. I was tired when i asked that. But i guess maybe some state's emissions are less strict than others? Probly not though.

Thats insane all those exhaust shops are that expensive. I been around pricing getting new pipes put on my truck. Header installation and new true dual 3 inch pipeing exiting where ever you choose and tips runs about $250-$300 at most shops here. Theres a guy that runs a special, 2.5 inch tru duals from manifolds coming out where ever you want, $125.

dynomax kits are nice and easy to put in, and cheap.... but i had to mod mine for hooker headers but it works great... i also cut out the last tail pipe bend for rear exits... it needs mufflers and the gaugeing is a little light so it tings a little but i like it lots!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What's the benefit of an X pipe? Does it just make a smoother engine note??

I've got some long tube headers sitting in my garage waiting to go on, but not sure what system to go for. Anybody had any experience with Magna Flow systems?

Is his labor rate $5 bucks an hour? Most shops are at least $65/hr and let's just say 4 hours labor right there that's $260 in labor without materials and tax. Around here Most garages are around $90/hour. Where do you live?

X-pipes help balance the exhaust backpressure and equalize flow with less restriction than an H-pipe. There's nothing wrong with an H-pipe either as they aren't as obstructive and are a little easier to work around.

Where should crossover pipe should go in an H pipe? Immediately at the bottom of the headers or further down the chassis towards the rear?

A mechanic once told me that a single all the way it is the best way to go instead of true duals, which would you pick?

On a stock system, a single would be fine.

You should actually put the the Crossover at the point where the pipes are the hottest, but this isn't always possible.
One way to determine it is paint the pipe drive it and where it is burnt put it there.
