Nissan 4x4 lift in front
« on: December 14, 2008, 02:42:35 pm »
Guys, I am sorry for bothering you with this subject here, but I have a project that I have to get done before the 25th. I am fixing a 89 Nissan 4x4 pickup up for my stepdad. This man is more than deserving of this truck because he gives continuosly to my mom, and has given alot to my sister and he's not even her dad, but he treats us like his kids. Recently his ignorant real son came down here to work in the oilfield without money, a car or anything,( he has a car, just left it in Canada) My stepdad is letting him use his pristine 85 Elcamino to drive to and from work, if he gets one. My stepbrother is lazy and dumb. Right now my stepdad is using my suburban which is ok with me, but not comfortable with him, but his only other option is his yamaha 1100. It is too cold to drive it everyday, which is why he has my sub, and wont take moms truck because he wont let her be without a vehicle.
Now that the story is over, the truck runs real good, but the front end is nosed down. Do these have torsion bars that can be cranked up or do I need to buy some spacers for it. It is in the shop, but I have been fighting the flu and havent had a chance to look. Doing better today, so hopefully I can start hasjing on it tomorrow afternoon. I gotta replace the hydraulic clutch cylinder, paint it, fix a few oil leaks, and get some tires on it, but the front end drop is bugging me. I appreciate your input. If I have to order something, I think I have time if I get it ordered quickly. Hopefully I can crank up the torsion bars if it has them. Thanks for any advice

Yes they are torsion bar. How much you can increas will depend on the fatigue of the suspension. Crank em up and see what happens

Thanks Vile, I went ot there this morning and saw the torsion bars. It looks like they arealmost all the way down, or I may be backwards. There is about 4 inches of threads sticking out the top of the bracket at the end of the torsion bars. I havent messed with torsion bars so, this will be a first. On a better note, I talked my stepdad into letting me get his 86 chevy swb going instead. Its a 4.3 v6, but he doesnt care as long as it runs.  I'll just make a hunting buggy out of the Nissan. It runs real good, its just...well.....a Nissan.  Is there a certain way the bars need to be adjusted. I saw the nuts on the top of the adjustment bolts, but do I need to jack it up to get the weight off of the suspension, or crank it up while it is sitting on the ground. Thanks for the info

You can adjust them loaded on the ground. Measure your starting point and twist away!
