Normal Oil Pressure?
« on: January 24, 2009, 03:38:37 pm »
Whats up guys?  I would like to know, what is a normal reading for oil pressure?  I have a chev 350 (late 60's early 70's), I know it was rebuilt recently, but not sure how complete the rebuild was.  When I start my truck i have high oil pressure (70- 80) but once she starts idling nicely it stays from 35-40, when i hit the gas it jumps up 10-20 lbs.  Does this sound normal to you?  I plan to run this truck at high RPMs, so I would like to know if I am having any issues.  Thanks!

Someone probably put in a high volume oil pump but your pressures are good.

Thanks for the reply guys.  If 10lbs per 1k rpm is normal, then shouldnt I only be reading 25 lbs at 2.5 rpms?   Or is it 10lbs per 1k  on top of the normal 40lbs?

Thanks fellas!

i know with mine she will run about 40-50 at first start up then once she warms up she drops to 15-20. just be happy your not at 5 when you warm up, thats "blue oval bad"

Just as a rule of thumb 10lbs for every 1000RPM
78' K-20 355/SM465/twin stick 205 6" on 36's
14 bolt FF/big bearing Dana 44 4.56 gears
