the doubler kit is bad but unless you like to hard core wheel your truck its not so practical. you could get a NP205 for less then that and have REAL part time 4wd.

Well if he goes out and buys a 205, why throw out the 203? Just add the 205 to the front half of the 203 case and then he has a doubler. I guess he would have to build or buy a cross member(skid plate) but thats really about it. There are web pages out there that give you step by step instructions on how to do it yourself.
Example if he bought the 205 and just went with that alone its about the same amount of work to instal isnt it? Example he would have to modify his driveshafts, etc.
I dont know but im thinking with the doubler he would have something special. Wouldnt cost all that much extra to do.
I have never regreated replaceing stuff better than original on a truck but I have regreted cheaping out and replaceing stuff with stock stuff when for a few bucks more I could have had something really nice.
JMO though, really there is no wrong way to do it.

i would have to agree but your looking at almost $1,000 with the custom crossmember and drivelines and adapters for the doubler(www.offroaddesign.com) not to mention a 205 that is suitable. the best and least cost effective way is to convert the 203 PERIOD.

Thread necro!!!  8)

My two bits, if the truck has 84000 original miles and is cherry... I either wouldn't touch it at all,
or I'd be careful to keep all original parts in a safe place, so as to be able to re-install them to bring
the truck back to original condition.
