q-jet 305-350jetting?
« on: February 13, 2009, 06:59:28 pm »
hi guys just wondering a bit here.  when i did my engine swap i bought a new(re-manned) q-jet, the exact same model number that was on my stock 84 305ci. now has a mild 350 from an 89 that i converted back to carb. truck runs good just really fine tuning now.  now my question is- would the jets and rods in this carb be the same as a say a similar year 350 carb equipped or would they be "smaller/leaner"? thanx

Edelbrock was making the qjets again. And now they make the parts for them.

I don't think Edelbrock makes anything anymore. They just stick their name on other peoples products. But yeah that'll work with an OEM Q-jet.

Yeah, sorry, some other company makes the parts and edelbrock puts their name on it. Yay for capitalism. I forget the actual name of the company, but those parts work for qjets. Some carb builders use them.

Edelbrock was contracting a company to make Qjets off the original Rochester tooling.  Yes the jets and rods for the correct series of q-jet will fit in the Edelbrock Q-jet and a GM Q-jet for they are one and the same.

Does the truck surge in steady state driving?  if yes then it will need to be richened up a little bit.  Unless you went really big on the cam the 305 Q-jet jetting should work OK, the secondaries will need to be richened up a bit for the larger engine size.  The secondaries are way too easy to change, they are on the hanger in the middle of the air horn door, just remove the small screw and pull straight up.

If you plan to order the kit from Edelbrock, make sure you get the "newer" one...the older, pre '76 (I believe) carbs have a different primary rod length. I couldn't tell by the description in the link Vile posted if the was for the "new or old" part number.  Lorne
