That looks good man, a lot better than regular old mailbox.  And now when you give someone directions to your house, they'll know for sure if they found the right place.

Those brick mailboxes dont have any problems from baseball bats.

I want to make a mailbox on a thick flexible spring so when someone whacks it, it'll lay down and bounce back up  ;D

Just put a 2" diameter pipe running the heigth of your mail box post upwards so that the top of the pipe is even with the top of the mailbox--on the flag side of the mailbox, fill it in with concrete.  Anyone with a bat coming down the highway hitting your mailbox will hit the pipe and the bat will bounce back and hit them--thus protecting your mailbox.  Oh, paint the pipe part protuding upwards alongside the mailbox the same color as the mailbox so it is camoflauged.  ;D

We had a guy several years ago put a 6 inch steel post in the ground about 4 ft, and filled it with concrete because he was tired of replacing his mailbox every other weekend. Well, as predicted, the youngsters tried to plow his mailbox and basically got stopped dead in their tracks. Next thing you know, he was being sued because it was considered excessive and hazardous. And, since it was on the right away of his property, he couldnt even claim trespassing. The same Barnie Fife Sherriff that told him for weeks that if they couldnt catch the kids doing it, then they couldnt do anything about it, was the one who told him he was in the wrong for trying to fix his mailbox from being destroyed, and let the kids go. I think one was his son, but no names were written down coincedentally. Got to be careful, if it hurts someone, you may be liable, tho I dont think you should be. By the way, you have to drive about 20 ft off of the main road to hit any of the mailboxes on that road, and the kids "accidentally" hit the 5 boxes before his house. I dont think so.

Yea I dont think that was a accident. But hopefully noone will hit my mailbox we have never had anything like that around here they just put chickens in the school with cooking oil and stupid stuff like that. But my graduation year someone hung a bear from the top of the school with principal's face on it lol our mascot is a bear it was pretty funny.

You can legally get away with it in most states if you make it obvious that it is reinforced.  If steel bars are obvious, you are set.

It's not up to the local police whether or not to prosecute....they should've called the Postmaster General, for it is a FEDERAL crime to tamper with mailboxes.

the mailbox my dad made at our old house was a piece of 6 inch PVC pipe buried 4 feet down and set in concrete, then a bunch of rebar in the pipe and then the pipe filled up to the top with concrete.  Then he cut it to the height he wanted and put a 90* elbow on it and a foot or so for the box to sit on.  Then we had a mailbox and a paper box inside the pipe.  While this didn't protect the actual mailbox, our problem was kids running the whole thing over with their cars.  They hit that thing one day and it's funny, they wre gone but their car was still there in the morning....  We leaned it back up and put more concrete in the hole around it and it's still there now.
