rear tailgate switch
« on: April 02, 2009, 01:46:43 am »
I'm having a problem getting my key switch to work on the tailgate  Does anyone know what the resistance should be for the switch? I checked the voltage at the 30a circuit breaker and I'm getting constant 12.48v but at the connector it drops to 10.49v. Is this a normal drop in voltage for 10g wire at this length ? I'm thinking there is voltage loss between the breaker and the odd shaped ,low profile switch connector. I checked the wire at the rear connector (behind the bumper) and the voltage was 10.49. Are there any other connectors that I'm missing which might be the cause of this. Is there a ground for this switch and if so how is it grounded? Lastly, If the wire (orange w black stripe) was constantly touching metal somewhere, would the breaker just stop making contact? Thanks.

Well I figured out that the connector behind the bumper was the culprit as it was somewhat corroded , so I put a new connector on and the rear switch works great!
