How do I remove my smog equipment?
« on: March 23, 2009, 07:54:37 PM »
Well it's time for another truck project, I want to remove all the smog stuff on my 87........I know when I removed it from my 90 Mustang GT I had to plug some holes in the heads, are these the same or do the tubes just come out of the manifolds? will this mess with my EGR or do I remove it also? once again thanks for any help.

If you have TBI, the only thing you can get rid of is the A.I.R. Pump and lines and maybe the egr system.

Just behind the air pump there is a valve of some sorts that has a 2 wire electrical plug in, do I just leave it unplugged?

IF you leave it unplugged, your check engine light will come on. I removed the pumps on our church bus (C60 with a 350) and the check engine light is one. I have to find out which resistor you can out in it to make the light go out, I just havent done so. When I figure it out, I will let you know. The light doesnt hurt anything, and simply removing the bulb from the dash will fix that. I think the emmissions junk is the only thing that will make it come on anyway, but I wont swear by it.

Gold84GMC, what did you use to plug the holes with. The one I did had the flare nuts on it, and I retapped the holes to put different pipe thread type plugs in it because I couldnt find flare nut thread type plugs that size.
