rear end question
« on: May 10, 2009, 10:26:57 am »
on my truck with the regular 10 bolt. you know how you got those 4 little gears in the case inside the chunk, i think it has 2 pinion gears and 2 side gears well the one at the top, center is shattered. i heard a pop last night so i took the cover off and found that gear, busted, laying in the botton of the housing. so how long can i drive it like that till i can fix it? it still pulls and everything.

Fix it right away. That is your differential and your axles are connected to it. For the 10 bolt remove the pin bolt and slide the pinion shaft out. Slide the axles inward and remove the c-clips. Then you can slide the axles out. Simply rotate the differential gears out and clean everything out good. Summit sells heavy duty differential gear sets.
