TB spacer problem
« on: May 18, 2009, 05:57:56 pm »
A few months ago i bought and installed a CFM tech throttle body spacer. And ever since then the truck has shifted rough from 1st to second. ('87 2WD 1/2 ton 700R4 5.7L) Anyway, i called them and i found out there was a spacer in the kit that is supposed to be installed on the transmission shift cable. So i dug around in my closet till i found the box and sure enough, there were some little half inch spacers in there. So how do you get the cable off? It looks to me like a little rivet is in the back of where it connects to the throttle body. So i dont think thats where you are supposed to take it off. Not to mention that due to the size of the hole in the spacer, there is no way it could ever slip over the end of that cable and stay there. Anyone know how to get the tranny cable loose? I tried for a while but i dont want to break it.

Without seeing it, I would say the small spacers mount under the bracket that holds both the throttle and TV cables.  Unbolt this bracket from the manifold and reinstall with the spacers between the bracket and manifold to lift the position of both cables.  After you installed the spacer you changed the relative position between your TV cable mounting point and the TB unit, hence the increased harshness in shifts.

To get the tranny cable loose: press the TV adjusting button (just behind the cable mounting bracket) on the side to relieve pressure, disconnect the cable from the TB (pull it foward and then away), squeeze the two tangs on either side of the cable (holding it in place, just in front of the cable mounting bracket), then push the cable back toward the firewall.

Now, I'm sure that's about as clear as mud, have fun.

Are you asking how to slide the tv cable off of the throttle linkage? It just slides forward toward the radiator support. And your spacer sounds like event is describing although you may need longer bolts then adjust your tv cable accordingly.
