84 Suburban
« on: October 23, 2006, 08:41:00 pm »
I just got a '84 Suburban 3/4 ton 2wd for $350 in good running condition everything works and the body is in good condition. I have two questions.

1 When i apply the brakes coming to stop the seat belt light comes on and when i stop completely it goes out. There is no buzzer or braking problems just the light, what could cause that?

When i looked up the vin # in my   catalog the engine is a 350 heavy duty, what is the difference bwtween a 350 HD and a regular 350?

Thanx for ur time i'll post some pics tomorrow after work thanx Dennis

Check the plug under the seat by the seatbelt to make sure there are no bare wires grounding out while you are slowing down.

The HD motor will have a different cam and possibly slightly more compression that is more appropriate to pulling.  Otherwise an HD vs LD motor is identical (they do produce less power, but more down low.

The HD "M" code 350 is a 4-bolt main I believe.  The K and L engines might be 2-bolt mains.

I just got an '84 Suburban myself, K20, 350/700R4.  $900.  But it's worth every penny, and we don't have to go make payments on it since it was a cash purchase.

I think the HD has better(header type) cast exhaust manifolds too.
