what is zero clearance? some say up and down play, others say turning the pushrod.  when turning the pushrod should u tighten down till u cant turn the pushrod or barely turn it??   im very confused.  and dont want to screw somethin up.

also this is a weird question, i noticed today that the motor thats in the truck thats been rebuilt has on one head were the pushrods go thru the head, the holes on one head are rounded on top and bottom and have straight sides and are very close to the sides of the pushrod,   the other head had round holes were the pushrod goes thru.  guy i know saw it and said it may have been a hol or 2 got tore up and they machined them round, but now theres so much room around the pushrod that its making the rockers move side to side on the valves.   he said i needed self aligning rockers??  are they all the same for small chevy?        help me pleaseeeeeeeee

What are the casting #s on the heads? What rockers do you have? Tighten the rocker on the base circle of the cam til zero lash is felt moving the pushrod up and down. You can still spin the push rod with the lifter depressed. Tighten up to 1 full turn additional.

stock stamped rockers,  casting numbers says when looked up its a gm crate replacement head.  i think the last three digits on head was 389, or 369.

my autozone has stock stamped self aligning rockers for small chevy, says for newer model truck but looks exactly same as stock stampers i have, says same ratio 1.5 shoul dbe ok im assuming.

its a freshly built 350, hydraulic lifters, mild cam.

was i was told to adjust is to turn engine over and watch #1 exhaust valve, once it starts to go down(open ) then adjust the intake,  the turn over till intake goes down (open) the adjust exhaust,  then on down the line same for all,     is this correct??
