Tall-deck 427's

Are there reasons why this is NOT a candidate for a performance motor vs. a regular 427 BBC? These tall-decks came in things like 5-tons, Top Kicks and such, right? I remember renting a 25' U-Haul once and it was a Top Kick that had a big block and a 4 speed in it. Dunno if it was a 427 or not.
I just love the engine size 427 and these tall-decks aren't that expensive or too hard to find
Just curious really.

Tall decks can be a pita more than their worth. You can build almost a 500 out of one but there are lots of differences that can lead to oversight. Otherwise if you can get a complete cheap one go for it.

A guy I knew ran a dirt car 427 tall deck, made lots of horsepower with one. He used spacers on the intake so he can run the 4500 holley single plane intake. Nothing wrong with building a tall deck, parts are plentfull.
