Ignition coil
« on: November 21, 2009, 09:02:18 am »
I looked through all old post searching ignition coil and no luck. but i have been through 3 coils in a week. what am i doing wrong? the red wire keeps melting and grounding out on the metal frame around the coil. It is no getting pinched but there is a silver metal ground strap that comes with it but says in the instructions may be used on older models (i did not use this). I am running a distributor out of like 84ish. But the three wires coming out the Red is Ignition, Black is Ground, and White is Tach. right? i hooked the ground to one of the bolts that screw the coil into the cap. But the cap is plastic. So i am gonna go get another coil and install it with the strap but is there something that hooks to this strap to ground it out?

Ok i know now. The wire is melting because that strap should be installed. I hooked it up and it fits in the plug that plugs into the cap.
